About Louisiana Double Poker

This particular video poker game is one of Microgaming’s classic titles. It is quite simple in appearance, although don’t let its dated look fool you. Louisiana Double Poker is actually a rather exciting title to play. You have your usual run-of-the-mill Microgaming gaming control bar to contend with too, so as long as you have played Microgaming titles before, Louisiana Double Poker should be a doddle.

How to play

After your bet has been made, you’re ready to start calling the shots. You’re dealt five cards to start off with. The game will automatically hold certain cards that it thinks you may wish to hold. You can click on any of the cards to hold or discard them as your pleasure. Once you have made your decision, you can draw additional cards to replace the ones discarded.

If you pick up a win, you are then invited to double it, if you wish. This is the feature that Louisiana Double Poker gets its title from. If you choose to double your bet, you’ll be taken to a new set of cards, one of which is overturned. You must pick from the four remaining cards and find one that is higher than the overturned card. If you do, you’ll double your winnings. You can keep doubling them as long as you win.

Wagering and prizes

Players can click on the bet button to determine how much they wish their coin values to be worth. Your options stem from a low of 1.25, up to a high of 25.00. Players can then click on the pay-table to choose the number of coins that they are going to be playing. The cheapest hands costs just 1.25 per game. At its most expensive, this title can set you back 125.00 per hand.

The lowest paying hand in Louisiana Double Poker is worth 1 coin. Two Pairs, Three of a Kind, Straights, Flushes, and Full Houses, Four of a Kind and Straight Flushes all beat that. However, if you want to win the big jackpot, you’ll need to find a Royal Flush when playing with the maximum wager. This will bring you 2,500 coins.

Final thoughts

As good as this game is, the fact that the top jackpot only offers you 2,500 coins cannot be missed. This is a somewhat smaller jackpot than you can find in other video poker titles. That’s a bit of a shame.
