About Jacks or Better

Every casino software developer has their own take on Jacks or Better video poker, it seems. Espresso Game’s version of Jacks or Better requires that players choose their bet before they start their game, so that’s already a little less flexible than most, and this is before you even get to the main game screen.

How to play

After finally navigating your way to the game screen, and having made your bet, you will be dealt a total of 5 cards in this Jacks or Better game. You can use the hold buttons to keep as many of those cards as you wish. Any you choose not to keep will be discarded and replaced with new ones.

Players then have a second hand before them. This is the hand upon which they will be judged. If it matches a hand from the paytable, they will win. Jacks or Better really is as simple as that.

Wagering and prizes

Before you start playing this game, you must choose your coin values. You won’t do this on the game screen, though. You must do it on a landing screen. This splash page can see you choose con values of 0.05, 0.10, 0.25, 1.00, or 2.00 in total. Minimum and maximum stakes vary from 0.05 up to 10.00 in total.

One of the perks about playing Jacks or Better is that you don’t have to have a high ranking hand to win. In fact, you only need to have a Pair of Jacks, anything above is a bonus. Aside from the Jacks or Better hand, you can win with a Two Pair, a Three of a Kind, Straights, Flushes, a Full House, 4 of a Kind, a Straight Flush, or a Natural Royal Flush. The biggest prize is worth 4,000 coins, and you’ll need a Royal Flush to land it.

Final thoughts

You really don’t have much chance of landing a Royal Flush, but the same is true of any video poker game. In fact, the same is true of any poker game. Fortunately, the pay-outs for smaller hands are also worthwhile in this video poker game, which may tempt you to give it a run for its money.
