American Poker II Deluxe is a video poker game from Novomatic. The second in the Maximum Video Poker series, this game is a fast-paced version of All-American video poker and uses a 52-card deck and a single joker card. As you can imagine that joker (or wild, if you prefer) can substitute for any others in the game to help you land a win. As with all video poker games, you are looking at a two-deal system. This means that players will receive one set of cards, and they can choose to keep or discard any of those before a new set of cards will be drawn to replace any discarded ones.

Wagers and Prizes

Curiously, the Jacks or Better (lowest-paying hand) only comes into play if you take the second draw. Ignoring that will see a Two Pair act as the lowest hand with which you can pocket a prize. Prizes are relatively straightforward in this game. You will not get to wager multiple coins per hand, so the payouts are fixed at 20 coins for a Jacks or Better (again, if you take the second draw) and just 12 coins for a Two Pair.

You can win 20, 28 or 36 coins for a Three-of-a-Kind, Straight, or a Flush. A Full House pays 48 coins, while a Four-of-a-Kind, Straight Flush, and Royal Flush deliver wins of 160, 320, and 1,200 coins, respectively. The top prize is obtained by landing the non-conventional Five-of-a-Kind (with a joker), and it pays 2,400 coins. Stakes in the game are affordable and range from 0.10 a turn up to 10.00 a hand.

Final Thoughts

American Poker II Deluxe is an alright game as far as video poker titles go, but it is certainly nothing to write home about. There are better video poker games out there on the net that pay out far more luxurious prizes with lower stakes. The addition of a joker card and the use of a single-coin bet make it ideal for new players who may not necessarily have played video poker before. While this game is ideal for those who want to practice their poker skills and try their hand at something simpler, American Poker II Deluxe is hardly what we would call a fan favourite at online casinos.
