Oryx Gaming is the design stable responsible for this particular version of Aces & Faces, and this is the first time we will be reviewing a game in their stable. Not knowing much about the company does not mean that this is not a good version of online video poker, and we are more than willing to give it a fair try-out. We have played it and it is as good a version of any other video poker game we have seen. However, when playing in demo mode, a screen does keep interrupting asking us to register with the software provider. This sort of disturbs the flow of play, but is not too much of a big deal.

Special Features

This version of Aces & Faces may be played with a single deck of cards or, four packs, ten, and twenty-five, so is a multi-hand form of video poker. Players are also able to select coin size, between 0.01, and 0.50, when playing with four decks of cards. This changes when playing with one deck, as it will when playing with ten or twenty-five. Obviously a Maximum bet is the best to spend when playing this game, but for low-rolling players, it is at least nice to have that choice.

A maximum bet for one deck of cards is 5.00, 10.00 for four decks, 25.00 for ten hands, and 1.25 for twenty five decks. Cheaper, more than likely because there are more opportunities to win when playing across so may decks of cards. Again the Jacks or Better rules apply for this version of video poker, and this is the lowest winning hand ranking, while the Highest is a Royal Flush.

Graphically we find the cards a little small to be able to concentrate on when playing so many hands. But otherwise game quality is very good when playing with lesser amounts of hands. In one hand mode, pay-tables appear on the same screen, while in multi-hand mode, this space is taken up by the additional decks of cards.

Bonus Feature

We are never sure whether this is a bonus feature or not but if the player gets lucky they can double their winnings. On the flip side of the coin this is a “Double or Nothing” feature, and the same that is found on many other version of video poker. We stick to a simple rule that if winnings are small, then we take the risk, as we won’t have lost much. However when winnings are big, we collect these immediately.
