When most people think about video slot themes the ideas of fast cars, exciting destinations and hidden treasures come to mind. Fishing isn’t usually one of them. Reel Spinner takes the player on a trip to the open sea in this rather bland five reel slot. Microgaming has produced a very generic game compared to their other releases sporting only a single bonus feature. This slot is presented with simple cartoonish graphics of various species of fish and fishing implements, such as compasses, fishing reels and control levers.
The background is mostly covered by the solid reels so you don’t get much sense of the ocean view and although the graphics are smooth, they look dated and closer to those of slots that appeared five years ago.
We almost get the sense that the game was designed with limited features or creativity, in order to rush it out onto the floor, and is quite similar to Microgaming’s other slot, Alaskan Fishing.
Special Features
Reel Spinner has a medium variance with a 96% return to player rate and a maximum jackpot of 112,500 in cash. It only features 15 available pay lines with a min/max bet of 0.15 to 11.25 credits which will probably not satisfy the high rollers. The only option for adjustment is the betting range.
The game's logo features as the wild symbol which substitutes for icons except the scatter.
Bonus Feature
To activate the slot’s only bonus feature you need to keep an eye out for at least three swordfish scatter symbols which will open the free spins component. Reel Spinner has a slightly interesting two stage approach: in the first stage you are presented with several boats and once you select one, you will be rewarded with between five and 20 free spins. In the second stage you are prompted to spin a fishing reel to reveal up to a 5x multiplier that will be applied to these wins.
As this is a medium variance game the probability of getting 20 free spins with a 5x multiplier is pretty low. We feel the chances are more around five or ten free spins coupled with a 2x or 3x multiplier.
As an added perk, wilds can be stacked during the feature to provide additional winnings up to 10,000 times your initial stake on every free spin, but unfortunately you cannot retrigger the feature.
