About Blades of the Abyss
Nucleus Gaming’s Blades of the Abyss has the primitive look and feel of console and video games of yesteryear. This isn’t that unusual, as Nucleus Gaming isn’t particularly known for the visual appeal of their games. This one is a fantasy-themed release and one that is played over an unconventional five-reel interface. Why unconventional? Because there is a 3-4-5-4-3 structure in play. There are twenty lines spanning this slot’s reels, and you can adjust both the coin value and the number of coins you stake, though all twenty lines of fixed in Blades of the Abyss. Having a stab at this Nucleus’ developed slot will cost you at least 0.40 per spin (which is a touch steep), while maximum bets are capped at 100.00 a spin, which is not altogether unreasonable. Prizes can rise to 12.5x your bet (per line), though, and that’s not great by a long shot.
Special Features
It is worth noting that Blades of the Abyss pays from left to right but also right to left, effectively doubling your number of lines, and providing you with Nucleus Gaming’s reason for its extreme minimum bet value.
Two randomly triggered features can kick into gear in Blades of the Abyss. First, you have a Swordsman who may strike above or below himself, turning symbols into wilds. Secondly, there is a Shieldmaiden who can strike to her left or right, once more, turning symbols into wilds.
Should both the Swordsman and Shieldmaiden appear, and they come into contact, a free spin bonus may begin.
Bonus Feature
Blades of the Abyss offers players at least ten free spins once the free games feature kicks into gear. Here, the triggering wilds will remain in place throughout the bonus. You can also pocket additional spins if the duelling warriors are joined by more of their kind on the reels.
While not specifically a proper bonus (in the true sense of the word), it is possible to trigger a gamble feature following any win. When this occurs, you can choose to toss a coin, and whether it lands on heads or tails will determine whether you double your money or not. You cannot activate this feature following the free spin bonus, but we don’t see why you would want to do that anyway. Ultimately, we’d avoid this Blades of Abyss feature entirely, as your odds of success aren’t great.
