About Double Down Stud
Double Down Stud has been designed as though it were an actual standing video poker machine, in a real land based casino. The video poker game contains most of your usual video poker gameplay, although it is wrapped up in a very appealing, and graphically authentic shell. Double Down Stud also allows you to enjoy a special feature, which we’ll discuss more about in just a second. If you’re looking for faithful video poker experience, Double Down Stud is the way to go.
How to play
As we’ve said, Double Down Stud plays pretty much the same as other video poker titles. So, once your bet has been staked, you’ll get five cards in your hand (though one is face down). But that is where the special feature kicks in. Ordinarily, you would be entitled to drop cards. You can’t in Double Down Stud!
As you can only see four of your cards, that is going to have to be enough for you to decide if it is worth playing on. If you decide to play on, your bet will be doubled, and you’ll get a fifth card to add to your hand. You can still claim a fifth card, even if you don’t double your bet. After your fifth card is drawn, your hand will be measured against the pay-table. If there’s a match, you will win.
Wagering and prizes
Placing a bet is a fairly simple affair in Double Down Stud. You can click on the + and – buttons to alter your coin values to anything from 0.05 up to 1.00 in total. From there, you can wager between 1 and 5 coins per hand. This will give you minimum and maximum wagers of 0.05 and 5.00 per hand in total.
The lowest paying hand in Double Down Stud is a pair of 6s to 10s. Pairs of Jacks to Aces beat that, whilst Two Pairs, 3 of a Kind or a Straight are better still. A Flush, Full House, 4 of a Kind or a Straight Flush are the next highest paying hands. Finally, if you get a Royal Flush, you can win up to 10,000 coins, playing with the maximum bet.
Final thoughts
We like the concept of this game. It presents something new to us, something that we haven’t necessarily seen before. It doesn’t offer your highest ever chances of success, but it sure is unique and that always has to be appreciated.
